Are you interested in getting involved with helping out in your local environment? If so, Reading boasts a diverse range of local eco-groups and societies that you can get involved with, some of which we’ve collated below.

Econet

Econet is a wildlife conservation group that undertakes a wide range of activities relating to the conservation of the natural environment in public open spaces and other sites in and around Reading. These activities include coppicing, hedgelaying, scrub clearance, control of non native species, footpath clearance and willow harvesting.

Greater Reading Environmental Network (GREN)

GREN brings together groups and individuals around Reading who care about sustainability, environment, climate change, conservation, and planning issues. GREN gives members a collective voice, takes action together and shares information, news and resources to help build a more sustainable world.

Global Justice Reading

Global Justice Now campaigns for a world where resources are controlled by the many, not the few. They work in solidarity with social movements to challenge corporate power and the policies that cause poverty and inequality all over the world. Their local group, Global Justice Reading, organises film screenings and talks and we take part in creative street campaigning and lobbying politicians.

Reading Friends of The Earth

Reading Friends of The Earth are a group of environmentally minded people. They campaign at a local level in order to help improve local policy and to do our part for national campaigns. Their actions range from holding fun public events with games and displays to holding or participating in meetings in order to help ourselves or others become better informed about key issues.

Reading Area Green Christians 

An ecumenical group to support and encourage all those active in Creation Care in their churches, as well as to arrange occasional Reading-wide events. They are linked to Churches Together in Reading and to Green Christian and are currently working with Citizens UK. Regular emails share news of up coming events and meetings happen every two or three months.

Reading Islamic Trustees for the Environment (RITE)

RITE are a community group that works with Mosques and Muslim community organisations to raise awareness of environmental issues and assists them in running events or activities with their members and networks with regards to environmental and sustainability issues.
