WHAT IS READING CLIMATE FESTIVAL?

Since 2020, Reading Climate Festival occurs annually and offers a wide range of events and activities  to inspire and support Reading’s journey to net zero.

THE PURPOSE

The Festival is a chance for us all to feel part of something bigger – the collective mission to reduce Reading’s contribution to climate change to net zero by 2030.

Even small actions matter, especially when we act collectively. And small steps embolden us to take bigger steps! If one household reduces heat loss it makes a tiny difference. If thousands of us take this small step together, we can have a big collective impact  on our town’s contribution to climate change.

The Festival provides a moment for us to:

  • Hear more about the good things that are already happening in Reading
  • Understand Reading’s specific journey to net zero
  • Come up with new and creative ways to inspire change
  • Access support for steps we want to take at home or at work, and offer our support where it is needed
  • Spark new collaborations

THE PEOPLE

Reading Climate Festival is run on a not-for-profit basis by Reading Climate Change Partnership (RCCP), the steering group of the Reading Climate Action Network. RCCP is also the team that brings people together to create the town’s climate action plans. We’re currently defining the town’s climate action priorities for 2025 – 2030 and the 2024 festival was part of a Year of Climate Engagement which invites everybody who lives, works or studies in the town to help co-create those priorities.

The first Reading Climate Festival was held in 2020 (during the pandemic) as a series of online talks. Since then it has grown to include events for children, art installations, sustainable fashion events, workshops for businesses who want to measure their climate impacts, presentations from some of our local food, allotment and rewilding experts; film showings and much more.
