More about the new strategy and action plan
Climate action at work and at home
The Reading Climate Action Plan sets out actions local organisations have pledged to take over the next five years. It is not a 'guide to action' for individuals in their personal lives. Several actions will *enable* climate action by individuals, e.g. tariff trials; climate-friendly menus; funding bids; tailored resources and services; and/or campaigns that help large groups of people to act together for collective impacts.
How were the actions developed? During 2024, +450 local people participated in a process to shape a shared vision for a climate-friendly Reading -- plus actions to help get us there. People participated via:
- a core deliberative group representing all sectors and communities
- 3 x public surveys and 2 x public consultations
- 2 x youth engagement events and a Big Letter for schools
- a discussion pack for local groups and themed working groups.
Each action has a lead partner. In most cases additional support will be needed. That is where you come in! (See 'How to get involved', above.)
What about individual action? We recognise that some people may read these documents expecting to find a list of actions they can take in their personal lives to reduce their negative impacts on the climate. For that reason, we have included some guidance for people who are already highly motivated and able to act, both on this website and in a (forthcoming) Summary and Quickstart Guide to the Reading Climate Emergency Strategy and Action Plan.
