What is climate action? Individual ‘lifestyle actions’ (like reducing meat in our diets) or putting pressure on big  companies and governments (like calling for an end to subsidies for fossil fuels)?

There’s a raging debate about where to focus efforts, but it’s safe to say the two kinds of climate action actually work together.

Taking individual actions – together – for collective impact

The Reading Climate Pledge was created in 2023 as a practical way for people who live, work or study in Reading to “Take individual actions – together – for collective impact.” When thousands of us change our habits, that’s part of how systems change.

You can join hundreds of others in Reading by pledging to take five or more of these climate actions – and play an important role in whether Reading achieves its goal of becoming net zero by 2030.

This is an evolving campaign we’d love to grow and shape with you. We hope to develop a dashboard to help us all see the difference we are making in Reading through this pledge campaign.

We will also share campaigns that call for specific climate actions by government and big business, through our newsletter and content.
